Celebrating Armistice Day 2020

by Veterans For Peace

On Armistice Day 2020 fifteen of us from Veterans For Peace, Maine, and other stalwart souls gathered at Monument Square to acknowledge a day set aside for world peace.  We were not “celebrating” Veterans Day. The traditional parade had been cancelled except for four aging veterans accompanied by two police cars.  Over the years, the parade has been dwindling in size, so the pandemic this year may have delivered the final blow.  So it goes. At 11:00am, as the bells were ringing, we knelt in memory of war’s victims and out of respect for those who continue to work to rid that scourge of mankind from this planet. We will be back next year.  Will you join us?
