Meeting on 6/20/24 opened at 5:15pm at Lynn’s residence in Brunswick

Attendance: Doug Rawlings, Sally Chappell, Jon Chappell, Richard Clements, Rita Clements, Peter Morgan, Seth Berner, Lynn Ellis, Eric Herter, Dan Ellis, Larry Gilbert, Mike Flanagan, John Morris

New member Navy veteran Mike Flanagan was welcomed to the Chapter.

Inspiration: Lynn read a poem “A Protest and a Party” by Hannah Roberts Villnave.

Secretary’s Report: May meeting minutes accepted as written.

Treasurer’s Report: Balance as of 6/20/24 is $58,354.48

Discussion was held on Don Kimball’s current membership on the Chapter Board of Directors, now that he has moved to California. Since he still plans to take an active role as a Chapter member, it was decided that he should remain on the Board for the duration of his term.

Upcoming events:
July 4th – parade in Bath. Eric will provide info.
July 20th – parade in Hallowell. Richard will provide info.
July 27th – destroyer “christening” at Bath Iron Works. Details will be on the listserv.
August 3rd – Brunswick Air Show. Protest starts at 9am.
September 20, 21, and 22 – Common Ground Fair. Sept. 21 is International Peace Day.

Golden Rule: It was moved, seconded, and passed unanimously to donate $500 for this summer’s voyage in the Pacific Northwest.

Peter announced that Will Hopkins has stepped down as VFP Executive Director.

Eric agreed to take possession of the sound system components which are currently being housed by Rosalie Paul.

Discussion was held on the Sierra’ Club’s request for us to become involved in the current controversy over the location of a proposed wind farm on the Maine coast. It was agreed that we will not become involved at this time.

Sally offered a number of books on war and peace to those present at the meeting.

Mike offered some thoughts on his involvement in the 1967 Israeli attack on the USS Liberty and the need for awareness of the power and influence of the Israeli lobby on our government policy, including the election and actions by members of Congress.

Meeting adjourned at 7pm. No July meeting. Next meeting will be in August
